SEE YOU SOON IN 2020 !!!
8th February 2019

Doha Triathlon will take place on Friday 8th February 2019, in the surrounding area of the Museum of Islamic Art, with the scenic view of Doha’s skyline in the background.

This is the third edition of the event which started on 20th January 2017. In addition of the full Olympic Triathlon, Sprint and Super Sprint distances that we offered last year, we have expanded the offer to take adults in the Super Sprint distance. This is for beginners who would like to give a try to triathlon, as a first step to enter triathlon competition in individual mode. There is also an official Duathlon race for kids ranging from 7 to 12 years old.

Kids Duathlon – 2 km bike, 800m run
Super Sprint – 375m swim, 10 km bike, 2.5k run
Sprint – 750m swim, 20 km bike, 5k run
Olympic – 1500m swim, 40 km bike, 10k run

(*) Note: Although the different races are based in these distances, in order to make looping in the cycling and running courses easier and safer for participants, you might find differences.

Kids Duathlon (7-9 and 10-12 years old)
Super Sprint (13-15 and 16+ adults)
Sprint and Olympic (16+ adults)

The swim will take place in the bay behind the Museum. Doha average sea water temperature in February is about 19 degrees Celsius (66.2 Fahrenheit) and therefore, as per ITU rules, the use of wetsuit will be most likely optional.

Transition will be placed next to Richard Serra’s ‘7’ Sculpture. The cycling leg will be along the Corniche and back to the Museum Park for the run.

The Museum of Islamic Art, is one of the Doha’s most iconic building, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect I.M. Pei. It hosts a collection of finest Islamic art pieces from across the Islamic world from the 7th to the 19th century.

The event will also host the National Championship, for selected Qatari athletes, Sprint distance. This is a drafting race, the first one to depart in the morning. National Championship elite athletes need to use a road bike with drop bars and can use aerobars that are bridged but do not extend further than their brake hoods. The rest of the races in Doha Triathlon event is non-drafting.

This consists of a vest or short sleeve top and running/cycling shorts for the run/bike sections. Tri-suits can be worn and are recommended. Wetsuits, as per ITU rules, will be most likely optional. Swimsuits must not be used for cycling or running and chests must be covered during the bike and run legs. There are no change tents provided in transition. Nudity is strictly prohibited in the transition area. Failure to comply with the dress code will result in disqualification.

  • Closed road cycling course along the Corniche.

  • What time does the event finish?

We anticipate to re-open the Corniche for traffic at 10:30 am and to finish the event around same time.

  • How is the event timed?

We will be using our own timing system. All competitors will be given their timing chip on race day at registration. They will have to return the chip after crossing the finish line. Teams will be issued one chip; the chip is to be passed between team members in transition only. There is a penalty of 500 QR in case the chip is lost or not returned. Only athletes with race numbers, matching their bike number will be able to remove bikes and kit from transition, this is to ensure the safety and security of your bike.
